Frequently Asked (and promptly answered) Questions

1. Isn't "Un-American" a term that can only be applied to U.S. citizens?

No. The entire world is subjcct to the rule of Pax Americana. Hence, all people born into this world are de facto citizens of Pax Americana. That most people in the world are denied U.S. citizenship is but one of the many layers of stratification that is used by imperial agents to divide and conquer. Another layer can be clearly seen at the level of U.S. presidency. Apparently only white Christian males need apply (at least according to its record over the last 200 years). Though the requirments may be loosened in the near future due to pressure from an unruly populace the principle of stratification will doubtless remain firmly in place. Only an elite (which may someday include wealthy women and privileged light-skinned Blacks or Latinos) will have access to the halls of power and only those born on U.S. soil will be granted the "privilege" of U.S. citizenship. Since the Interim Government of the Republic of Un-America acknowledges the equal value of all people in the empire, no fictitious distinctions shall be drawn between those born on U.S. soil and those born elsewhere. Ignoring such arbitrary rules is part of the Un-American Way.

2. What's the difference between "Un-American" and "Anti-American"?

It is the same as the difference between "undoing a wrong" and "anti-doing a wrong". The former is correct grammar, the second is not. When newscasters, journalists, and politicians use the word "Anti-American" they are attempting to portray a dichotomy between "good" Americanism and "bad" Anti-Americanism, "good" Freedom-loving Patriots and "bad" Freedom-hating terrorists.

In fact, there is no such dichotomy. Pax Americanism stands for many different things which are most often context-bound. In many cases, both contemporay and historically, Americanism has meant committing grievous crimes against humanity. For example, the Founding Fathers of the U.S. empire fought for freedom from England. They did not fight for the freedom of indigenous Americans, enslaved Africans, or women steeped in a patriarchal society. They arrogantly chastised the Germans for concentration camps against Jews but sent 70,000 Japanese-Americans into concentration camps in the U.S. and killed hundreds of thousands of Japanese civilians in Nagasaki and Hiroshima. Today they claim to fight for the freedom of Iraqis once subjected to tyranny under Saddam Hussein but not the freedom of Saudis subjected to a similar tyranny under Fahd. They viewed militants like Osama Bin Laden as a terrorist in the 90's but as a hero in the 80's. Thus, any sort of "Anti-Americanism" would be hard pressed to state what it is for or against: there is no clear definable Americanism to be against. There is, however, empire.

The fact that the vast majority of the world's people are subjected to the effects of the Pax American empire but do not have any say in its decisionmaking process is the defining trait of Un-Americanism. To the extent that Pax Americanism is exclusive, Un-Americanism is inclusive. To the extent that Pax Americanism is determined by words as opposed to action, Un-Americanism is vice versa: one's lifestyle, circumstances, character, and position determine whether or not one is Un-American.

3. What about racism, terrorism, homophobia, fascism, tyranny, and serial murder? Isn't all of that Un-American too?

Quite the contrary. The U.S. elite has clearly established that they support all of those. Here are some examples.

Racism: Jim Crow and chattel slavery were Pax American institutions for years and still today many sectors of American society are inofficailly segregated. Whites are more often in positions of power and Blacks are more often in positions of imprisonment. Racial profiling of people who appear to be Muslim is another contemporary example.

Terrorism: The U.S. government has and continues to sanction military actions which result in the killing of civilians. Whether they offer an official 'apology' afterwards or not does not change the terroristic nature of this repeat offense.

Homophobia: The overturning of the gay marriages in California and the condemnation of gay marriages by President Bush are recent examples.

Fascism and tyranny: The U.S.-backed coup of Augusto Pinochet against Salvador Allende in Chile is a case in point. The U.S. support of Saudi Arabia is another.

Serial murder: Despite attempts by Amnesty International and the world community, the United States continues to allow its states to impose the death penalty upon its citizens.

4. Where is the Republic of Un-America?

The Republic of Un-America exists in all places that are affected in any way by the empire of the United States of America: Pax Americana. It exists as much in a Bógota barrio or a Berlin bar as it does in a disco in Doha or a deli in Danville, Virginia. It exists as much in the physical world of land and soil as it does in the cultural world of concepts, clothing, and cyberspace. Like Pax Americana, the Republic of Un-America flows through us and around us more like the sea that surrounds the fish than any land that supports a folk.

Unlike Pax Americana, the Republic of Un-America does not project its power through military conquest and occupation. Un-Americans, by definition, are those people who do not benefit/profit from the practice of imperial warfare.

5. What sort of organization does the Republic of Un-America have? How can I join?

At this moment there is an Interim Government of the Republic of Un-America. Its purpose is to establish fair and inclusive elections that counter-balance the partisan and exclusive elections that occur in the USA. All parties should be able allowed to run candidates and all citizens of the world should be allowed to vote. You are likely already a citizen of the Republic of Un-America yet are not aware of it. Most citizens do not have proof of their citizenship (such as an IDA-Card) but that is not necessary. The IDA-Card is just a formality which aids the process of mutual education and global democratization (as well as offering a special bonus of Cultural Capital Assets).

The structure of the Republic of Un-America is decentralized democracy. All official organizations and corporations in the Republic of Un-America are required to have democratic structure: one person, one vote. Nonetheless, decisions tend to be made by consensus in small groups and facilitated by rotating representatives. To apply for a position as a representative of the Interim Government of the Republic of Un-America or to receive your IDA-Card contact the House of Un-American Identifications.

Citizens of the RUA are not restricted from being members of any other organization. Though all official organizations of the Republic of Un-America are required to be democratic, this does not prohibit citizens from being members of non-democratic organizations if they so choose. For example, a Roman Catholic may still be an Un-American citizen even though the Roman Catholic Church is not democratically organized.

6. Why don't you issue passports?

We don't have passports because we don't have borders. But we do issue IDA-Cards which a) demonstrates that you may have some sympathy for the sentiments expressed in the Declaration of Interdependents and b) grants you X amount of Cultural Capital Assets in the Cultural Capital Stock Market of the Republic of Un-America.

7. Can we solve the mind-body problem?

Despite our best efforts, the Interim Government of the Republic of Un-America has not been able to find a solution to this very old problem. We know that brains are the cause of consciousness but we have no understanding whatever of how this could be so. Instead of answers we are faced with yet more questions: Are thoughts directly shaped by the neuronic network patterns? Through which processes are time-space coordination enabled into the biological formation of brain material? Are thoughts and concepts capable of transcending cognitive hardware? Can emotions be simulated through digital and/or chemical simulations? These and many other questions come to mind when we ask what it is we mean when we say that questions come to mind to begin with and also where that mind is that the questions came to and where those questions reside when they got where they were going.

Glossary

Cultural Capital Assets (CCA): Cultural Capital Assets (CCA) are the social credits that people maintain in their professional, personal, and ludic-based interactions with people around them. The

Cultural Capital Stock Market (CCSM): The Cultural Capital Stock Market (CCSM) is the socially fixated arena of local, regional, and global interaction. It is in the CCSM wherein people both re-create and reaffirm their own identities. Here they also "take risks" to acheive higher status, "play it safe", in order to not lose any ground, and survey the social landscape in order to judge and assess the Cultural Capital Assets of other participants. Thus, each person is both a creditor and a debtor, a judge and contestant in the grand casino/contest CCSM.

IDA-Card: Identification and Asset Card. This card demonstrates that you have signed the Declaration of Interdependence, identifies you as a sentient Un-American, and registers the amount of Cultural Capital Assets that you have acquired. Only one IDA-Card per person.

Pax Americana: Pax Americana is quite simply an ironic term describing the imperial state of affaiors today. It is ironic in that "Pax" means "peace" yet imperial agents and policies are often far from peaceful. It also brings to mind the ancient Roman empire whose tyranny brought peace for many years under Pax Romana.

Republic: The act of returning privatized public property to public ownership. Republic (or "Re-Public") is sometimes referred to erroneously as anti-privatization. So, for example, a representative of the Interim Government of the Republic of Un-America might come and ask "we were wondering if we could republic your swimming pool?" Plato thought that republic was a noun but obviously he didn't know what he was talking about.

Self-Hating Un-American: This term refers to average people who have been infected with the idea that the interests of the imperial elite are somehow their interests as well. For example, a typical self-hating Un-American might be a working class person or a person of color who proudly waves the American flag and supports imperial military operations abroad.
